Say farewell to a Tacoma superstar! Dr. Paul-Elliott Cobbs, conductor of the Tacoma Youth Symphony for the past 27 years, is retiring this year. Saturday, May 18, 2024 at 7pm at the Pantages Theater, the Tacoma Youth Symphony will celebrate Dr. Cobbs and bid him a warm farewell in a concert featuring Verdi’s Overture to “La forza del destino,” Hoffmeister’s Viola Concerto in D Major, Bruch’s Violin Concerto in D minor, and William Walton’s Spitfire Prelude and Fugue. Dr. Cobbs’ lifelong friends and colleagues, Carrie Rehkopf and John Michel, will perform Johannes Brahms’ Double Concerto for Violin and Cello. The Concerto, composed in the summer of 1887, was Brahms’ final composition for orchestra.

Alumni will also honor Dr. Cobbs as they join the orchestra for an encore performance of Holst’s Jupiter.
