Celebrate the historic first women’s Olympic marathon trials that took place in Olympia in 1984! Club Oly Road Runners, a nonprofit running club devoted to fostering a love of running, present “Inspiring Generations: Celebrating the First Women’s Olympic Marathon Trials” Saturday, May 18, 2024. The free event will start with a shakeout run at 9am at Marathon Park and continue with panel discussions 11am-3:30pm at the Olympia Ballroom. Guests include Des Linden, 2018 winner of the Boston Marathon and Jacqueline Hansen, 1984 Olympic Marathon trials participant, 1973 Boston Marathon Winner and the first woman to break 2:40 in the marathon; and many more. They will be accepting donations for Bras for Girls, an organization that donates new sports bras to girls in need with the intention of increasing the participation of girls/women in sports.
