Share your input on solutions to Chehalis Basin flooding! The Office of Chehalis Basin (OCB) invites you to join the community webinar, “Preview the Local Actions Non-Dam Alternatives” on Wednesday, February 8, 2023, from 6-7pm PT. The one-hour webinar will include an informational update on the current options under consideration as part of the Local Actions Non-Dam Alternative (LAND), followed by a question and answer session for the community.
LAND is a collaborative, community effort to develop an approach to reduce long-term flood damage across the Chehalis Basin as an alternative to—or in addition to—the Chehalis River Dam, proposed by the Chehalis River Basin Flood Control Zone District. LAND seeks to provide flood damage reduction while considering impacts on local wildlife, residents and businesses, and cost.
While flooding is common for the Chehalis Basin, climate change is magnifying its severity. Floods so large that they only happened once every hundred years could happen as frequently as once a decade by the end of the century, putting residents in greater danger of losing homes, livelihoods, and lives.
Registration is live here.
This event is part of an ongoing webinar series hosted by OCB. Recordings of all recent webinars can be found on the OCB YouTube channel. Topics thus far have included the Skookumchuck Dam study, climate change predictions and the future of flooding in the Chehalis Basin, training on the Chehalis River Basin Flood Warning System, and flood assistance resources for residents.
